Solar, Wind, and BESS

Solar, wind, and their related battery energy storage systems (BESS) continue to be a mainstay in renewable energy production—and ESA’s experts are in-step with our clients’ needs to bring them into commercial operation.

Our goal is to assist responsible agencies, utilities, private industry, refineries, and other invested parties in balancing environmental issues with the demand for energy generation and storage. Since the 1980s, ESA has been working with both private sector and public agencies, giving our team a strong understanding of the dynamic and complex regulatory and funding framework for large-scale energy projects.

To date, we have supported the permitting of more than 80 utility-scale solar projects, 20 wind projects, and 15 stand-alone or hybrid battery storage projects across the United States.

In the West, working closely and effectively with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) across their field offices is important to the environmental review process. ESA has worked with the BLM on dozens of successful projects, including assessing many projects across the California Desert District. ESA also employs the former principal technical advisor at BLM, Tony Overly, who developed the 11-million-acre Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan Section 106 Programmatic Agreement in consultation with 45 tribes and 350 other consulting parties. We bring keen insight into their requirements, practices, and preferences, which proves to be invaluable to energy projects on BLM lands.
