Environmental Science Associates (ESA), a leading environmental science and planning firm, welcomes Douglas Skurski, MS, PWS as biological resources director for the Southeast region. With nearly two decades of experience as an environmental project manager, Skurski most recently served as the natural and cultural resources manager for architecture and engineering firm Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT), overseeing the expansion of these services for the firm from the mid-Atlantic into Florida and throughout the Southeast.

“Doug’s focus on exceptional client service, as well as his depth of experience managing both dynamic teams and complex environmental projects, are an invaluable asset to our clients here in the Southeast region,” said Julie Sullivan, ESA vice president and Southeast regional director. “While he has a strong resume in transportation, his skill set extends to many sectors of ESA’s core business. We look forward to engaging Doug’s energy and contacts as we continue to expand our services throughout the Gulf Coast.”

In addition to his role at JMT, Skurski spent 12 years as a senior ecologist for DRMP, Inc. His environmental management experience includes numerous design-build and transportation projects for Florida state agencies. Skurski is well-versed in wetland assessments, federal, state, and local permitting, protected species studies, GIS mapping and analyses, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, habitat evaluation and environmental impact mitigation. He is a certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and earned an MS in Biology from the University of Central Florida, as well as a BS in Zoology from Washington State University.

“Joining ESA gives me an incredible opportunity to expand my professional development as a multifaceted biologist, collaborating with some of the best scientific consultants in our industry, while contributing to strategic planning and growth of the Southeast region,” said Skurski. “It is exciting to work among like-minded scientists with similar goals, ethics, and vision, contributing to projects that will help shape the future of our communities.”

ESA has served clients in Florida and the Southeast region since 1999, recently expanding their Florida operations with the acquisition of Scheda Ecological Associates, a Florida-based environmental permitting and ecosystem management consulting firm, in May 2017.
