Environmental Science Associates (ESA), a leading environmental science and planning firm headquartered in San Francisco and with offices on the West and Gulf Coasts, has officially opened its San Jose office. This will be the firm’s fifth office in the Northern California region. As first reported back in March, the move brings ESA’s employee-owners in proximity to a number of the firm’s long-standing South Bay clients, including the City of San Jose, Santa Clara County, Stanford University, San Jose International Airport, Santa Clara Valley Water District, and those in the technology sector. It puts ESA closer to existing and future employees, reducing their work commutes and the firm’s carbon footprint.
“For all of us, opening a new office during our 50th anniversary year is especially exciting—it’s a celebration of the firm’s important relationships with our South Bay clients, a continuation of our long-standing tradition of supporting the development of healthy, livable communities, and, of course, it supports our mission of providing value for our employee-owners,” said ESA President and CEO Leslie Moulton-Post. “We look forward to continuing our work providing resilient and sustainable solutions to the South Bay’s most important urban development, infrastructure, and ecological projects as we grow our presence in the area.”
In addition to being closer to our clients, this strategically important location connects all of ESA’s major Northern California offices by rail, providing a transit-oriented hub for employees across the region to easily connect and collaborate, and a more convenient home base for the firm’s current—and future—Bay Area staff who live in the South Bay. Just steps away from Diridon Station, the office is located in a mixed-use building and is pioneering the evolving 21st century workplace for ESA.
The San Jose office is led by John Bourgeois, ESA’s Bay Area Restoration and Ecology Program Manager and South Bay resident for over 20 years. Before joining ESA in October 2018, John served as executive project manager for the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, one of the largest wetland restoration projects in the United States, as well as having served on the Town of Los Gatos Planning Commission.
“When I talk with clients, industry partners, and staff, I often say that ESA has been in the South Bay all along, due to our decades-long client relationships,” ESA Northern California Regional Director Brian Boxer said. “Further, we regularly survey our staff to get a pulse of what’s important to them, and the opportunity to improve the quality of life for our staff who live in the South Bay and Peninsula by opening an office in San Jose was a theme that emerged. In the end, the ability to make a decision that benefits our clients and our staff made opening an office in San Jose a natural next move for our region.”
ESA’s new office is located at 787 The Alameda, Suite 250, San Jose, CA 95126. Opening with several long-time employee-owners, the office has the capacity to support ESA’s expected growth in the South Bay over the coming years. The firm has plans to celebrate the grand opening of the space in early 2020. To learn about this event, and other news and opportunities, visit the firm’s website to sign up for updates.
