Dr. Daniel Swenson has served as a regulatory specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) for 20 years. As a Regulatory Section Chief for the Los Angeles District, he led a team of project managers, overseeing the review of complex permit applications under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act.
Dan is proficient at navigating complex environmental situations by building consensus, resolving conflict and managing projects and initiatives. He routinely provided technical review and policy guidance to staff on National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and agency consultation letters to ensure they were well-written, defensible and complied with environmental laws such as the Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA).
Previously, Dan was the Regulatory Branch Chief for the Baltimore District covering Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. Prior to his supervisory work, he was a Senior Regulatory Project Manager with the Los Angeles District. He has permitted a wide variety of projects including transportation, coastal infrastructure, restoration, aquaculture, energy and utility lines, flood control, and residential and commercial development.
