Matt is a cultural resources specialist with more than 30 years’ experience in both public agency and private sector with a demonstrated history as a skilled project and people manager. As both a long-time federal agency archaeologist with the National Park Service and a highly experienced environmental consultant, Matt has extensive cultural resources compliance background under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) that includes preparing and overseeing preparation of environmental review documents.
Matt has assisted many city agencies and public utilities by leading archaeological technical studies and monitoring programs to help ensure compliance. He is qualified as a Principal Investigator under the Secretary of the Interior’s and Society for California Archaeology’s professional qualifications standards in both pre-contact and historical archaeology, and as a Qualified Marine Archaeologist under Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) guidelines.
As business lead, Matt guides the operations and performance of a team of more than 30 cultural resources practitioners throughout Northern California. Matt’s experience in academia teaching undergraduates at U.C. Berkeley gives him a unique ability to mentor and foster professional development of junior staff under his supervision.
