As Environmental Hydrology and Design Practice Leader, Jorgen provides strategic leadership for more than 80 practitioners specializing in environmental engineering, landscape architecture, and restoration planning and design. In this role, Jorgen advances ESA’s EH&D practice, a leader in wetland and river restoration design, pioneered nature-based solutions for coastal shoreline resilience and adaptation, and multi-benefit flood management for over four decades. Jorgen leverages his professional and personal experiences to focus on supporting a practice that prioritizes and nurtures team culture, capacity building, engagement and growth.
With over 27 years of technical and leadership experience in environmental engineering and landscape architecture, Jorgen has focused his practice through a broad range of project types and roles at ESA with an intention to build effective team collaboration to organize around and support sound decision-making, high quality service and thoughtful and inclusive leadership. He supports his teams on complex restoration and enhancement projects from planning and design through construction and monitoring—leveraging his experience with the integration of geomorphology, design engineering, habitat restoration design, riparian ecosystems, tested construction methods, and regulatory considerations. Jorgen is recognized as a trusted advisor to clients, project proponents, planning and design industry leaders and regulatory agency representatives throughout California.
He also has extensive experience supporting multi-disciplinary project teams with data collection, technical studies, considering and synthesizing actionable information and stakeholder input, planning and design and permitting strategies—all of which contribute to practical and creative projects. Throughout his career, he has paired this technical and design background with an emphasis on clear communication, effective project management, and sound decision-making, to facilitate proactive and engaging stakeholder outreach and coordination. This approach ensures projects are responsive to and accepted by communities and stakeholder groups, and enhance and support more resilient natural ecosystems.
Jorgen has a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University, and Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
