Dane is a civil engineer specializing in restoration and long-range planning in the coastal zone. With a background in geomorphology and coastal engineering, Dane leverages research advances to develop resilient, nature-based adaptation approaches, which are centered on empowering communities through thoughtful design.
Within the past twelve years he has contributed to over 20 habitat restoration and long-term planning studies for coastal wetlands and estuaries, spanning 13 of California’s 15 coastal counties. In San Francisco Bay, he has developed sea-level rise vulnerability plans for the cities of Burlingame, San Rafael, and Redwood City. He also has extensive research- and project-based experience developing complex hydrodynamic and morphodynamic models to quantify vulnerability at the community scale. His ongoing work focuses on applying nature-based approaches to address these vulnerabilities.
