Dana McGowan, RPA

As vice president and the leader for ESA’s Cultural Resources practice, Dana partners with clients and agencies to identify and preserve cultural resources and comply with increasingly complex regulatory requirements. She directs a team of distinguished prehistoric and historical archaeologists, architectural historians, preservation planners, maritime archaeologists, and curation specialists.

Dana brings more than three decades of industry experience as a recognized expert in NEPA, CEQA, and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Her extensive experience includes transportation, water, and energy projects, as well as wide-ranging rail experience. She is skilled at bridging environmental compliance and construction. Dana spent more than a decade on the San Francisco Transportation Authority’s Doyle Drive replacement project and has been heavily involved in the 520-mile California High Speed Rail project.

Dana has a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from California State University, Sacramento. She is a registered professional archaeologist and a member of the Society for American Archaeology, Society for Historical Archaeology, past president and member of the Society for California Archaeology, and past board member and vice president for the American Cultural Resources Association.
